Scott Whitman grew up in Loves Park (Rockford), Illinois. In 2005, he began playing tenor and bass drum for Clan MacAlpine Pipes and Drums. While pursuing his Bachelors in Music Education at Illinois State University, he met his future wife, Myranda, in the ISU Big Red Marching Machine.
Scott performed and competed with the Glassmen Drum and Bugle Corps out of Toledo, Ohio for the 2009, 2010, and 2011 seasons playing mellophone. After graduating from ISU in 2014, he taught band and music in the Bloomington-Normal, Illinois area for 7 years, most recently doing 5th-12th grade band at Roanoke-Benson School District.
In 2018, he began performing with Celtic Cross Pipes and Drums, a Grade 5 competitive pipe band in Central Illinois for which he now serves as the Pipe Major. In the Spring of 2021 he also joined the Milwaukee Scottish Pipe Band out of Milwaukee, Wisconsin which competes at the higher Grade 4 level. Scott competes as a solo piper at the Grade 4 level and has performed as a guest soloist on pipes with the Peoria Pops Orchestra the past 2 years.
Scott returned to ISU in 2021 for a Masters degree in Music Education. During that time he served at the Music Education Graduate Assistant and horn section leader for the Symphony Orchestra. After graduating in May 2023 he was hired by Illinois Wesleyan University and serves as the Head of Music Education there. Scott and his wife have 2 children together; Corrigan (7) who does not like the bagpipes, and Piper (3) who loves them!
